Jon Hemming – 1995 / Tits & Potatoes (Untidy Trax)

Jon Hemming puts his money where his mouth is with his debut release on Untidy Trax, which is a sign of things to come from the Redditch Redneck. Having pioneered the hard house scene in such a short space of time his focus is now on the tougher side of house, a sound he has been passionate for a long time.

Hemming has created a nice tough houser that fits nicely within the tech house world of music as well as other genres. The EP is completely original in sound and compliments the recent string of releases on Untidy very well. He has made no secret that TidyPro has helped him develop his production techniques in a big way and the result is here for you to hear.

First up we have ‘1995’. A significant year for some, especially for a record label with a bin in it;s logo. This is a pounding track with a nice bass and percussion combo. The groove is quite hypnotic taking the track well into the underground side of the house scene. This track has had some heavy support from key players within the house scene. ‘Come Back ToThe Start’ the vocal urges and in a way it does take you back to a time when house became tougher. Whilst a very futuristic track it also holds elements from those early days.

‘Tits & Potatoes’ is a title that has become something of a talking point. How someome can take two of their favourite things to inspire a track is Mensa material however it is a track that will leave you mashed. It carries a nice analogue bassline and some great synth sounds. It reminds me in a way of some of the techno that emerged from Germany in he mid 90’s at events like Mayday and Love Parade.

This is a very intricate and underground offering. It’s no surprise that it has entered the Beatport Top 100! Take a bow Mr Hemming you have officially entered the next stage of what will be a long career within dance music.

For Untidy, this is certaiinly a game changer…
