Tits Up!

Jon Hemming unleashed his first Untidy release and it;s a banger! We caught up with him to talk about potatoes as well as tits…

What is all this about Tits and Potatoes..?

I must admit it is a very strange title.  But truth be told it’s just 2 random words combined that seem to have a ring to it.  Originally it was an old music project called TITS (Tidy In The Shed) then after I finished the track I asked my lad CJ for a new name for the track, seeing  as he helped with the arrangement and one of the stab sounds and he just said randomly ‘potatoes’ thinking he was funny or something.  I mean, what else was I expecting from a 10 year old kid? After submitting the track I began to research if this combination of words was ever used before or if it actually had a meaning..  Oh dear lord… if anyone wants to learn what potato tits are then I recommend a quick search on Google. I promise I never knew.

Which of the two do you prefer?

I love boobies, but I also love a savoury potato snack, a marriage made in heaven.

Has your wife got over the photo you leaked of her in Turkey with her right banger out?

Hahaha I don’t think anyone ever got over that. That was the photo of her navigating an inflatable adventure playground in the pool during a family holiday. She completely wiped out a small kid with her massive bangers. I’ve always felt sorry for the poor traumatised little stranger.   With this in mind, I’d like to dedicate this the track to my wife and the family of the poor kid who got a face full.

Jokes aside, this is your first major house release. How do you feel about it
?

I’m extremely excited and anxious at the same time.   I’m looking forward to seeing how it is received by DJs now. Thankfully I have been able to test run this at some fantastic events and  awesome crowds. The reactions it gets on the drops and switches are very encouraging.  If nothing else I’m proud of this one.

It’s a long time coming considering you have been playing the style for a while. How do you feel you have developed as an artist over the last twelve months and what will we see from you during the next twelve months?

I’m not one to sit in front of a screen in a studio for days on end trying to make the next club classic. My creativeness comes ultimately from DJing. I’m inspired by watching other DJs and crowd reaction to the different elements in tracks. That being said when I get a strong idea or concept I have to lay it down and make the track. Sometimes it takes months to finish a track other times like this one a few hours and a few beers. I have loads of ideas and open projects. When the time comes the music seems to write itself.

Untidy Birmingham is back with you once again at the helm. It was one of your best events of last year. What can we expect from you this time round?

Untidy Birmingham is such a special event. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed playing the first one. Not only is it held in such an iconic venue but it’s in my home town. I think this gives me a sort of boost of inspiration. I just loved it. I can’t give too much away for what’s in store for the next one. One thing for sure is it will be extra special. Something I’ve always wanted to do will finally happen at Untidy Birmingham!

There will be a fair bit of Jon hemming exposure at Tidyland Weekender, can we expect something different and special?

Something a fellow DJ once wrote was, “As soon as you become predictable, you become irrelevant” I would like to think I often surprise people with my sets and you never really know what’s coming next. At the weekend and every set I do I alway try to add something of a curve ball. The weekend will be no different. With the shed picnic expect full on Jon The Shed Hemming. For my main room set, I’m hoping that’s going to set the bar high!

Finally, back to Tits and Potatoes… we’ve had enough tit talk…what is your favourite potato dish?
